The development of the ASEPTICSD™ Spray Dryer by GEA Niro has major implications for
vaccine production.
Traditionally vaccines are made in a batch process, using freeze drying often taking several
days to process a single batch. By means of the ASEPTICSD™, which makes
possible spray drying under aseptic conditions, the process operates
continuously until the desired quantity of formulated feed has been converted
into a dry powder.
In the spray drying process the liquid feed is converted into powder in a
fraction of a second, often under very lenient conditions, making it ideal for
heat sensitive materials. The development of the ASEPTICSD™ Spray Dryer type
ASD, by GEA Niro is the first in the World to be made suitable for
vaccines.
