Single stage ejectors use liquid, steam or gas, under pressure as a motive medium, converting this pressure energy into velocity and hence into useful work. They have a multitude of names depending on their duty, but GEA Wiegand, designate them first by their motive fluid, followed by their duty, as listed below.

Liquid Jet Pumps  In most cases, liquid jet pumps are operated with water as motive medium. Depending on application and material, it is also possible to use other liquids	Steam Jet Pumps  In most cases, steam jet pumps are operated with water as motive medium. Depending on application and material, it is also possible to use other liquids.	GEA Wiegand Gas Jet Pumps  Gas jet vacuum pumps and air jet vacuum pumps operate on the same principle as all jet pumps: the pressure energy of the motive medium is converted into speed energy in the motive nozzle.
